Removal of phthalocyanine reactive dye using plasma corona discharge

Abstract Phthalocyanine reactive dye is typically difficult to biodegrade in water because of its big molecular size coming from the complex metal structure dye. Corona plasma discharge which can produce active radical species and molecules with high oxidation potentials, shockwaves, ultraviolet light potential efficiently degrade compounds. The experiments were carried out a batch reactor capacity 400 ml. generator used this study had point-plane electrode configuration voltage 40 kV. concentration as target for degradation was 25 ppm. operated addition pure oxygen gas flowing into reactor. distance between electrodes time exposure varied their removal efficiency (color COD value) tested. results showed that highest (83.15% 52.32% color value respectively) achieved experiment an 4.0 cm 60 minutes.
